The FynArts Festival started out as a ‘tourism’ event proposed by Mary Faure, the then chairperson of the Hermanus Tourism Bureau. The aim was to create an arts event that would attract discerning visitors who would spend more than one night in Hermanus during the quiet winter months. In June 2013, the first FynArts, a fusion of arts festival and winter school, debuted to a warm and generous reception. Since then, the festival has developed a track record of presenting a quality programme of exhibitions, concerts, talks and presentations, workshops, demonstrations and films, as well as events for children. Over the past years, the focus of FynArts has shifted focus from being a ‘tourism event’ into becoming a top quality, classic-feel arts-related festival.
